Relatives of arrested residents of Sari Tag District stop their protest action in Yerevan

The sit-in strike announced on March 27 has been stopped because of the poor health state of a woman involved in the protest action, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 27, nine persons, relatives of the people accused of riots in Yerevan, which occurred in July 2016, started a sit-in strike with the demand to release the people arrested in the case.

On July 19, 2016, in Yerevan, demonstrators tried to break into the building of the police regiment captured by the "Sasna Tsrer" detachment. Four residents of Sari Tag, Arutyun Torosyan, Grair Isakhanyan, Eduard Zeitunyan and Andranik Keseyan – were arrested and charged with using violence against power officials. On March 25, Zeitunyan's wife reported that he had gone on a hunger strike in jail in protest against his arrest.

The action announced by relatives of the defendants was held in front of the building of the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia. For two days, not a single prosecutor came out of the building to meet the hunger-strikers. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Narine Gazaryan, the wife of Grach Boyadjyan.

"If you want you may sit in banks of snow, you may sit under the rain, they do not care. They are indifferent to your problem. They do not see us sitting in front of them with posters in our hands," noted Narine Gazaryan.

The hunger-striker insists that residents of the Sari Tag District are groundlessly charged. According to the woman, on July 19, the police itself provoked a clash with residents of the district.
