People detained in Chechen village of Davydenko face criminal prosecution

Three residents of the Chechen village of Davydenko, detained during a clash with the police on March 26, may be brought to criminal responsibility. This was announced at a gathering of villagers held in the village of Davydenko on March 27, local residents report.

On March 26, in the village of Davydenko, Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya, a conflict broke out of local residents with power agents. According to villagers, employees of the administration claimed 75,000 roubles from tenants of several houses; and when they refused to pay, they brought in construction machines accompanied by policemen. There was a skirmish, during which power agents beat up tenants and detained three of them.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the villagers that the gathering of the residents of the village of Davydenko was initiated by the authorities.

"Yesterday, we were visited by big bosses led by Magomed Daudov, Speaker of the Chechen Parliament. People hoped that they would investigate the situation and calm down our bureaucrats and law enforcers who crossed the line. However, it appeared to be out completely differently," said one of the villagers who preferred to remain anonymous.

"We wrote an appeal to Ramzan Kadyrov. We hoped that the authorities would pay attention to our problem. However, on the contrary, we were treated as guilty, and they threaten to sentence the detainees," said Magomed, another villager.

According to the man, after the clash with the police in the village of Davydenko, about 20 people were detained. Most of them were released; however, three residents of the village remain in custody.

"They say that they will be prosecuted for resisting policemen, although they, like others, tried to protect women and children from beating," states the man.
