Major Orthodox Temple consecrated in Chechnya

The Naur District of Chechnya hosted the ceremony of consecration of the OrthodoxTemple of the Nativity, the second largest church, designed for 350 parishioners.

The ceremony was attended by Varlaam, Bishop of Makhachkala and Grozny, an official of the Ministry for National Policy, External Relations, Press and Information, officials of the Naur District administration, as well as Orthodox residents. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by an official of the Chechen Press Ministry.

At present, more than 9800 residents live in the district centre of Naurskaya, of which about 1500 people are Orthodox believers.

  • Rights defenders give number of kidnapped people in Chechnya

    At least 80 residents of Chechnya have been kidnapped after a car with a DUSTUM license plate was set on fire; volunteers have identified the names of a number of them. In the village of Starye Atagi, Urus-Martan District, about 50 members of the Saif-Islam Elmurzaev family, suspected of setting the above car on fire, have been kidnapped; and about 30 people have been kidnapped in the Shali District, the "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD)* has reported.
