"Rustavi-2" TV Channel interrupts broadcasting in protest

The "Rustavi-2" TV Channel of Georgia has switched over to protest broadcasting, claiming the injustice in the country. The Channels urges its spectators to support it.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August 2015 Kibar Khalvashi, the former owner of the "Rustavi-2" filed a lawsuit against the illegal withdrawal of his share out of the Channel’s assets. On November 22, 2016, the "Rustavi-2" case was sent for consideration by the board of judges of the country's Supreme Court (SC). The decision on the lawsuit is still pending.

On February 18, around 01:00 a.m. local time, on the air of "Rustavi-2", Zaal Udumashvili, First Deputy Director General of the Channel, addressed the TV audience and stated the switchover to the protest broadcasting.

"This is the extreme protest measure, which television can use, but we have no other choice left. We’ll use our silence to convey our voice to everybody," the "Georgia-Online" quotes Mr Udumashvili as saying.

He called on supporters of the TV Channel "together to protect the ‘Rustavi-2’ and the freedom of speech."

Then, the Channel interrupted its broadcasting and posted an inscription on its website at the black background: "We protest against injustice!" the RIA "Novosti" reports.
