In Latakia, Armenian schoolchildren receive humanitarian aid from Yerevan

In Syrian Latakia, the Russian troops have begun to distribute the Armenian humanitarian aid. One of the first institutions, which will receive the aid, will be a school at an ancient church, in which 400 Armenian children study.

The humanitarian aid from Armenia weighing 18.5 tons was transported by a plane of the Russian military transport aviation to the Hmeymim air base. The cargo includes 20 kinds of food. The second part of the cargo containing warm clothing will be delivered to Hmeymim in the coming days.

According to Tigran Gevorkyan, the Consul General of Armenia in Aleppo, the food and clothing will be distributed among all Syrian citizens, regardless of their nationality and religion.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that members of the Armenian Diaspora in Syria, which, according to various estimates, combines 70,000-130,000 people, found themselves in a difficult situation after the beginning of the armed conflict in the country. Since 2012, Syria faced a massive outflow of Armenians to their historic homeland. In 2016, 18,000 Syrian Armenians were granted Armenian citizenship, reports Granush Akopyan, Minister of the Armenian Diaspora.
