Law enforcers report on prevention of killings of policemen in northern Chechnya

Residents of the Shelkovsky District of Chechnya, detained on January 31 on suspicion of intending to leave for Syria to join the militants, were plotting killings of policemen. This was reported by a source from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 31, in the Shelkovsky District, law enforcers detained seven local residents. According to law enforcers, the detainees were going to leave for Syria to join the ranks of militants of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia by court's decision.

"It turned out that they did not only intend to join the IS, but they also planned killings of law enforcers. In particular, it is about their plan to kill a MIA's staff member, the father of one of the detainees," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a source from the Chechen MIA.

The source did not mention the names of the detained residents of the Shelkovsky District. The Chechen MIA's official has only noted that the detainees are young people under 25 years old. According to the MIA's official, all the detainees were brought up in fairly wealthy families. Three of them have graduated from higher and specialized secondary education institutions, while four others are students.
