Nalchik resident convicted for helping IS militants

The North-Caucasian District Military Court has sentenced Arthur Teppeev to five years in colony for participation in the Kabardino-Balkarian branch of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization, banned in Russia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the transfer of the case to the court was reported in December 2016. According to investigators, in summer of 2015, Teppeev, joined the militant unit organized in Kabardino-Balkaria by Robert Zankishiev. As established by investigators, Teppeev was transporting militants, gathered information about residents of the republic, from whom money could be extorted, and kept explosives and ammunition.

Robert Zankishiev, who had been on the federal wanted list on suspicion of involvement in an illegal armed formation (IAF), was killed on November 10, 2015, during a special operation in Nalchik. He was known by the call name "Abdullah" and, according to power agents, led the Kabardino-Balkarian branch of the IS.

"The defendant has completely pled guilty; the case was heard under special procedure," said the spokesman of the press service of the court.
