Makhachkala residents complain about sudden exercises

Law enforcers have not warned residents of the capital of Dagestan about the exercises conducted today in the area of the television centre, Makhachkala residents report.

The tenants of nearby houses told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they were scared.

Saida Gulieva, a resident of Gromov Street, a mother of four children, has noted that the warning about the exercises should have been spread not only through the television.

"We've heard nothing about the planned exercises. I have small children at home; they heard the sound of helicopters and gunfire and got frightened. The younger daughter burst into tears; we couldn't calm her down. Then, my husband came and said that the road was blocked by APCs (armoured personnel carriers). We were very much afraid and thought they were catching some extremists again," she said.

The exercises, conducted in the city, have caused inconveniences to motorists, said Magomed Khalidov, a resident of Lazo Street.
