Participants of hearings demand to correct draft rules of Sochi improvement

In the course of public hearings of the draft rules of Sochi improvement, public activists have criticized such notions, included into the document, like "tree pruning and illumination" and the procedure of garbage collection. They demanded to hold a new hearing after the document is corrected. The Mayoralty promised to take remarks into account.

According to the draft, owners of premises must equip a container yard for wastes at the pre-house territory, or conclude a contract with the managing organization for using some other yard.

Elena Dzaganiya, a representative of residents of the neighbourhood named KSM, has noted the inadmissibility of moving garbage containers into pre-house territories, under tenants' windows.

The draft also contains a section on maintaining the greenery; it reads that "the greenery located in the land plots owned by legal entities, individual entrepreneurs and citizens shall be serviced by these persons."

Alexander Zyuzin, a member of the Sochi Environmental Council under the Mayor, said that this provision would lead to the death of the greenery.

Vladimir Ostapuk, the leader of the Public Environmental Council, has accused officials of an attempt "to lobby a completely incompetent and illiterate document."

He expressed concern about the reduction of the area of greenery in Sochi, and especially sharply criticized the illumination of trees envisaged in the draft rules.
