Natives of Dagestan detained on suspicion of involvement in Istanbul terror act

Among the forty people detained in the city of Izmir there are natives of Dagestan; they are suspected of involvement in the preparation of the attack on the nightclub in Istanbul, Turkish mass media have reported today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that 39 people were killed and 69 others were wounded during an armed attack on an Istanbul nightclub at night on January 1. The attack killed Nurana Gasanova, a Russian citizen of Azerbaijani origin; another two natives of Azerbaijan are among the wounded ones.

The operation of detaining the alleged participants in the preparation of the terror act was conducted in Izmir, where policemen detained 40 persons, including natives of Dagestan and countries of Central Asia, the "Gazeta.ru" writes with reference to its counterpart "Hurriyet".

The detentions were carried out this morning, clarifies the "Dogan News Agency", adding that in total nine men, 11 women and 20 children were detained, who originate from Eastern Turkistan, Kyrgyzstan and Dagestan, the "Mediazona" reports.

The Turkish police have confirmed the information of local media to the Reuters Agency, treating the 20 detainees as foreign militants, associated with the "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia.
