Sochi entrepreneurs report losses because of repair of Seaside Embankment

Residents of Sochi, being unhappy with delayed replacement of pavement, have succeeded in seeking opening of a passage to Seaside Embankment till final completion of the repair works. Owners of cafes, restaurants, and shops have reported losses caused by the construction works on the embankment during the holidays.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that workers engaged in replacement of pavement on Seaside Embankment of Sochi did not have time to complete their works by December 31 and thus made the access to the sea for residents of Sochi more difficult.

"Sand is everywhere. Builders are engaged in dusty works, and dirt flies to passers-by. This is totally wrong, and I feel indignant. I hear that people are indignant too. However, we cannot even complain to anyone, since the Mayor's Office is on the holidays. Who could find that appropriate to carry out repair works on public holidays, usually marked by the greatest concentration of people?" the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Albina Morozova, a resident of Sochi.

Passers-by and owners of cafes, restaurants, and shops located on Seaside Embankment told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they treat the works on replacement of pavement as misuse of budgetary funds.

"I guess they replace the pavement here probably for the tenth time during recent several years. Everyone understands that the budgetary funds are misused, but what can we do? Officials are the masters here, and they do what they want. Why don't prosecutors, policemen and investigators see what's going on? Why cannot they ask: what for good pavement stones are removed and where are they brought to?" said entrepreneur Lydia, engaged in selling souvenirs in Seaside Embankment.

"We could hardly sell anything starting from December 25. The access has been blocked till present. People did not come here, since the flow of people did not reach this place, but went to the city centre. We suffer losses," said Lydia.
