Oleg Miskhozhev's mother reports to Court about torture of her son at police station

At a hearing of the North-Caucasian Military Court in the case of an attempt to create a caliphate in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), the Court has questioned Marina Shogenova, the mother of defendant Oleg Miskhozhev. According to the woman, her son was tortured after his detention, and the Prosecutors' Office failed to react to the complaints about violations of the Oleg Miskhozhev's rights.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from August, the case against 10 residents of Kabardino-Balkaria, accused of an attempt to create a caliphate with Sharia form of government in the republic, is being considered at the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don.

According to investigators, Oleg Miskhozhev donated 13,000 roubles for construction of an Islamic caliphate in Kabardino-Balkaria. However, Marina Shogenova insisted that "the son gave her all the money he earned and that he himself did not even have pocket money."

Marina Shogenova has also told the Court that "Oleg Miskhozhev turned to Islam by himself when he was 14 years old." The witness has noted that "they never had weapons and drugs in their house."

The Oleg Miskhozhev's mother has said that in the KBR, "it is a common practice for law enforcers to kidnap young believers to force them to confess to unsolved crimes." Therefore, the woman has suggested that her son was brought to a police station in Nalchik.

According to Marina Shogenova, when she later visited her son, he told her that "he had been tortured with electric current." The woman has also reported that prior to disappearance of her son, he was watched.
