Court trying Geriev again bans video recording at sessions

The today's motion of the defence asking to allow video recording of the court session in Grozny, which considers the complaint lodged by Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, against his verdict, has been again rejected by the court.

On November 15, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Chechen Republic began considering the Geriev's complaint against his verdict. The last session was held on December 26 and considered the resolution of the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) stating that the information about Geriev's kidnapping and use of violence against him was not confirmed.

The today's session on Zhalaudi Geriev's case began with his petition to disqualify the panel of judges. Geriev tried to do it yesterday, but the court would not listen to him and adjourned the trial.

Today, the advocate Ebzeev has filed a motion for a permit to video the trial. The presiding judge has insisted that the disqualification issue should be settled first. Then, Geriev has temporarily revoked the disqualification motion, and asked first to consider the petition of his advocate about the video recording.

On December 13, the presiding judge Dmitri Gorbovtsov restricted video recording, pointing out that it failed to meet the interests of the trial, which he treated as "a one-actor performance".

As a result, the court rejected the petition, which asked to allow video recording.

Thereafter, Geriev has again challenged the panel of judges.
