Military experts treat sending Chechen policemen to Syria as legitimate

The sending of policemen to Syria is not against the law, since the December legislative amendments allow employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to conclude short-term military contracts to "suppress the activities of international terrorist organizations outside of Russia," said the military experts, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

On December 20, it became known that battalions were formed in Chechnya from among MIA employees for sending to Syria. The Chechen leadership is not engaged in the formation of these battalions, Ramzan Kadyrov said on December 21.

Sending MIA employees to Syria is not against the Russian legislation, said Pavel Felgengauer, an observer of the "Novaya Gazeta". He suggested that the Chechen power agents sent to Syria "receive crazy travel fees – 100 US dollars per day per policeman." Their task will be to "ensure the safety of Syrian Sunnis," said Felgengauer.

He stressed that according to his information, Kakiev and Yamadaev people were sent to Syria; "they subordinate to the federal centre," and "in fact are Kadyrov’s enemies."

The "Yamadaev people" are the former servicemen of the "Vostok" (East) battalion, which until May 2008 was under command of Sulim Yamadaev. The "Kakiev people" are the former servicemen of the "Zapad" (West) battalion, which until 2007 was under command of Said-Magomed Kakiev.

A Reserve Colonel Victor Murakhovskiy, the editor-in-chief of the "Fatherland’s Arsenal" magazine, believes that the information about sending MIA employees from Chechnya to Syria does not correspond to reality.
