Authorities of Dagestan plan to reorganize remaining orphanages

The last two Dagestani orphanagesn, located in the cities of Izberbash and Kaspiysk will be re-profiled in 2017, said Djamal Ataev, the spokesman of the Republic's Ministry of Education and Sciences. According to the Ministry, the total number of orphans in Dagestan is 5678 people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in total the republic has four orphanages. Most orphans live in foster families, while the orphanages, according to the Ministry, as of September 2016, had 83 pupils left.

On December 16, the Dagestani State University held a "roundtable" on the problems of homelessness and family ill-being, which was attended by Zapir Alkhasov, the Deputy Mayor of Makhachkala, and officials from the local Ministries of Public Health and Education and Sciences.

Let us remind you that in March this year a criminal case was opened on ill-treatment of pupils of the orphanage for mentally retarded children "Zabota" (Care) in Makhachkala.
