Court bans video recording of hearings on lawsuit against Yerevan Police

The court hearing on the lawsuit filed by Arsine Khandjyan, a Canadian actress, who accused the Armenian police of her unlawful detention during the riots in Yerevan, was postponed because of the absence of a representative of the defendant. The judge forbade journalists to shoot video of court hearings during the whole trial. This was reported by an advocate of Arsine Khandjyan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 27, in Khorenatsi Street in Yerevan, actress Arsine Khandjyan, the wife of Atom Egoyan, a Canadian film director, was detained. She took part in an action organized by supporters of members of the group "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun), who seized the building of the patrol-and-post service of the police regiment. According to the advocate of Arsine Khandjyan, his client spent three hours at a police station.

Arsine Khanjyan has filed a lawsuit to the Administrative Court with a request to recognize the law enforcers' actions as illegal and to impose on the police a fine in the amount of 500,000 drams (about 1030 US dollars) for moral damage. According to the Canadian actress, the police restricted her right to freedom of assembly and her right to advocate and legal aid, states advocate Aramazd Kiviryan.

The court hearings on the lawsuit were started on November 13.
