At trial, Varvara Karaulova claims non-admission of advocate to her at SIZO

On November 30, at a hearing in the case against of Varvara Karaulova, a former student of the Moscow State University (MSU), the Moscow District Military Court considered the claim of the defendant.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 5, the Moscow District Military Court began considering the case of Varvara Karaulova (Alexandra Ivanova), accused of attempting to participate in a terrorist organization in Syria. The defendant refuses to plead guilty.

With reference to advocate Sergey Badamshin, Varvara Karaulova reported to the Court that her advocate faced obstacles while trying to visit her at a SIZO (pre-trial prison).

"To visit the defendant, the advocate needs no permit; however, the SIZO administration ... demanded to present it. In this regard, my advocate Sergey Badamshin filed a complaint to the administration of the 'Lefortovo' SIZO," reported to the Court Varvara Karaulova.

She has also stated that Sergey Badamshin told her "it was difficult to visit the 'Lefortovo' SIZO."

Judge Alexander Ababkov has repeatedly asked if the defendant is confident about what she says, and Varvara Karaulova answered in the positive.

The Judge who chaired the trial has noted that the advocate's claim has been registered at the court records.
