Opposition demands revision of Georgian parliamentary elections
The outcomes of the October 8 parliamentary elections were "totally falsified," nine Georgian oppositional parties have stated today, expressing their readiness to join efforts to investigate violations and recount votes at disputed polling stations.
“We treat the October 8 parliamentary elections as totally falsified, non-free and unfair; as a result of which the people’s will was distorted," says the statement released today and signed by the "Free Georgia" Party, the "United Democratic Movement" (UDM), the "Democratic Movement – United Georgia", the "New Christian Democrats", the "Freedom", the Labour Party, the "Alliance of Georgian Patriots", the "Union of Traditionalists" and the "Political Movement Power Veterans and Patriots".
"We believe that the new parliament fails to adequately reflect the choices made by the population of Georgia; and it has insufficient legitimacy. We are ready to unite efforts to reveal and investigate particular violations of the norms of the law, open and recount the votes cast at the disputed polling stations, and punish those responsible at the whole extent of the law," says the statement.
