Action on fifth anniversary of Rafig Tagi's death held in Baku
Democratic society activists have marked the fifth anniversary of the death of Rafig Tagi, a writer and a publicist, by a commemoration action at his grave.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 19, 2011, in Baku, Rafig Tagi was attacked and stabbed in his neck, stomach and shoulder. He was hospitalized in grave condition, placed into the intensive care unit and operated on. After the surgery, Tagi's health somewhat stabilized, but he died on November 23.
On November 23 this year, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Rafig Tagi's death, his colleagues, media professionals, civil society, youth and oppositional activists paid tribute to the journalist at his grave in the cemetery located in the village of "Vochyi Vorota" (Wolf's Gate) in the vicinity of Baku.
On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Rafig Tagi's murder, the Azerbaijani Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS) expressed its deep concern about "the continuing violence against journalists in Azerbaijan, where there is in fact the atmosphere of impunity for such crimes; and the right to the freedom of expression is regularly violated."
The IRFS called on the authorities to conduct an independent, prompt and efficient investigation into Rafig Tagi's death and deaths of other journalists.
