At evening in memory of Pyotr Finkelberg, participants note his contribution to activities of cameramen in Caucasus

On November 10, in Vladikavkaz, the House of Cinema hosted an evening in honour of the 100^th birthday of Pyotr Finkelberg, a documentary filmmaker, who more than 50 years worked for the North-Caucasian documentary films studio and made films about people and the nature of the Caucasus.

The event presented the films made by Pyotr Finkelberg, including his film "The Portrait of the Father", dedicated to Ossetian sculptor Soslanbek Tavasiev, and the film "My happiness is in the Mountains" about Dagestani poet Rasul Gamzatov.

Rafael Gasparyants, a documentary filmmaker, who hosted the event, said that Pyotr Finkelberg was the first cameraman, a graduate of the VGIK (All-Russian State University of Cinematography named after S. A. Gerasimov), who came to work for the North-Caucasian documentary films studio.

Pyotr Finkelberg shot a lot in Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, North Ossetia, the StavropolTerritory, and in Chechen-Ingushetia.

According to Vyacheslav Guluev, the chairman of the North-Caucasian branch of the Russian Union of Cinematographers, who worked for many years together with Pyotr Finkelberg, "he was a man of conscience and honour," who tried to shoot something of interest for local residents.

The participants of the event have noted that Pyotr Finkelberg was granted the title of the Honoured Art Worker of Kabardino-Balkaria, Chechen-Ingushetia, and Dagestan. He brought up a whole generation of cameramen and always helped young specialists.
