In Nalchik, participants of rally claim need to counter "Neo-Stalinism"

Today, in Nalchik, in the Central City Park near the monument to victims of political repressions, activists have held annual rally, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Every year, on October 30, Russia marks the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions, set by the Resolution of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic) No. 1763/1-I dated October 18, 1991, "On establishment of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions".

According to organizers of the rally, the memorial event was attended by about fifty people. In the course of the rally, Marx Shakhmurzov, the chairman of the Kabardino-Balkarian branch of the All-Russian Association of Victims of Political Repression, has stated that "year by year, the number of the victims of political repressions decreases."

"The only thing we need is to ensure that the younger generation does not forget this fact of history and does not forget about the people deceased in exiles and prisons, shot dead and tortured," emphasized Marx Shakhmurzov.

Today, the participants of the mourning rally have also recalled the fact that on May 9, a bust of Joseph Stalin was opened in the village of Ozrek of the Lesken District. Earlier, the Association of the Victims of Political Repression has condemned the installation of the monument and called Joseph Stalin responsible for mass repressions in the 1930s and 1940s.

In his speech, Valery Khatazhukov, the leader of the Kabardino-Balkarian Human Rights Centre, has mentioned the need to "make efforts to prevent the 'Neo-Stalinism' taking root in society."
