CTO in Magaramkent District is 13th in Southern Dagestan in 2016

The counterterrorist operation (CTO), cancelled today in the Magaramkent District of Dagestan, was preceded by twelve other CTOs, announced in Southern Dagestan since the start of 2016. Five of them were conducted in the Magaramkent District.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the CTO regime was introduced in the village of Tagirkent-Kazmalyar on October 26. It was the fifth in the district held this year. According to a source from the law enforcement bodies, in the course of the special operation, law enforcers exchanged fire with unidentified attackers, who opened fire on them from a cordoned-off house. A suspected militant was killed during the special operation, and he was identified as Valekh Rafikhanov.

Earlier, the CTO regime was introduced in the Magaramkent District on September 4, when three suspected militants were killed and three law enforcers were wounded, one of them later died. On September 9, an OMON (riot police) fighter was wounded in a shootout with unidentified attackers. The CTO regime in the district was lifted on September 15.

The CTO regime was also introduced in the district in the morning on August 14; in that CTO Alikber Aliskerov, who had earlier been wanted by law enforcers, was killed. In the evening on August 14, the CTO regime was lifted.

Still earlier, an aggravation of the situation in the district occurred in April this year, when the CTO regime was introduced on April 10 and cancelled on April 11. On April 18, the CTO regime was announced again: a search of militants was undertaken. The Russian National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) lifted the regime only on August 2.

According to the calculations of the "Caucasian Knot", this year power agents introduced the CTO regime in five districts of Dagestan and in the city of Derbent.
