Nesterenko, Deputy Ataman of Anapa, arrested until December 12

The Pervomaisky District Court of Krasnodar has satisfied the investigator's petition to arrest Nikolai Nesterenko, the Ataman of the Cossack unit of Anapa, suspected of a major fraud with a land plot. Nesterenko has challenged his arrest at the Territorial Court.

He was detained on October 12 at a Kislovodsk sanatorium on suspicion of harming state interests in the amount of over 1.5 million roubles.

The court has ruled to arrest him until December 12, the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February 2013, Nikolai Nesterenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Anapa City Cossack Society and Director of the Cossack Marketplace, was wounded from a firearm; and his driver Victor Zhuk was killed. Sergey Zirinov, an Anapa entrepreneur, was accused of an attempted murder. On October 11, 2016, he was sentenced to 22 years in colony.

Nesterenko also was in the media focus this May, when at the Anapa Airport several men attacked Alexei Navalny and employees of his Anti-Corruption Fund. According to employees of the Fund, they were attacked by Cossacks. The video of the incident shows a person resembling Nesterenko. According to Sergey Burlutskyi, the Ataman of City Cossack Society, Nesterenko was seriously injured in the incident.
