Cherevatenko talks about symbolism of Politkovskaya Award

Valentina Cherevatenko, the head of the human rights organization "Women of the Don", who received Anna Politkovskaya Award on the 10th anniversary of the journalist's murder, told the "Caucasian Knot" that the work of her organization is largely associated with Anna's activities.

On October 6, the international NGO "RAW in War" (Reach All Women in War) gave the Politkovskaya Award to Valentina Cherevatenko for her support of victims of armed conflicts. According to Cherevatenko, the peacemaking work of her "Women of the Don" is in line with what Anna Politkovskaya had fought for.

Anna Politkovskaya, well-known for her articles about Northern Caucasus, in particular about Chechnya, was shot dead in Moscow on October 7, 2006.

According to Cherevatenko, everything that lately happens around the "Women of the Don", greatly underestimates her "own self-esteem and self-respect."

As a whole, in her opinion, the human rights situation in Northern Caucasus and Russia leaves much to be desired.
