"ECO-M" blames Mayoralty for garbage collapse in Makhachkala

The Makhachkala Mayoralty is unable to provide the city with a sufficient amount of city garbage platforms and finance the clearing of spontaneous dumps, said the spokesman of the cleaning company "ECO-M". In their turn, officials claim that it is the "ECO-M", which is badly doing its duties of garbage removal.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July, workers of the "ECO-M" refused to go to work until full repayment of salary debts. In September, a criminal case was opened against the bosses of the "ECO-M" for non-payment of salaries to their workers in the amount of 9.5 million roubles.

The problem of unauthorised dumps is acute in Makhachkala for a long time: back in 2009, the city was recognized as one of the most polluted in Russia.

Now, Makhachkala has about 2300 garbage bins installed, said Magomed Magomedov, an employee of the "ECO-M". However, to solve the problem with spontaneous dumps more than 7000 bin are needed.

The "ECO-M" believes that this situation is a result of the disorganized work of the Mayoralty, which failed to provide the city with platforms (places) for installing garbage containers (bins).

Meanwhile, users of social networks continue complaining about dumps in Makhachkala.

The problem of garbage in the city cannot be solved as long as the Dagestani authorities "are dominated by clannish ties," wrote the user Gamzat Labazanov. He suggested "to completely change the cleaning system in the city," including increase of the frequency of garbage collection.
