In Dagestan, journalists claim hopelessness of appealing against election outcomes

Claims about violations committed at the elections may be considered by courts during several months. This opinion was voiced by Mairbek Agaev, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft). Complaints about abuses will not be considered properly; however, it is important to publicly express dissatisfaction with the authorities' actions, believes Gadjimurad Sagitov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Novoye Delo". According to Roman Udot, the co-chairman of the movement "Voice", even a successful challenge of the results of the elections at some polling stations will not affect the overall outcome of the voting.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to members of the opposition parties, at the elections in Dagestan, numerous violations were observed, which affected the outcome of the voting. In Dagestan, 88.86% of voters gave their voices to the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party at the elections to the State Duma, and 75.51% of voters at the elections to the Parliament of Dagestan.

On September 20, participants of the press conference at the edition office of the newspaper "Chernovik" claimed the use of administrative resource, "carousels", massive ballot box stuffing and falsification of voting protocols.

Such events are necessary "at least in terms of the desire to live under the law, which should work in the same way for everyone," emphasized Albert Esedov, the leader of the regional branch of the "Yabloko" Party.

However, according to Mairbek Agaev, it makes no sense to attempt to challenge the election results at court. Nevertheless, the participants of the press conference are going to use public opinion and voting at the website "Change.org" to make the massive violations public.

Gadjimurad Sagitov believes that complaints about abuses will not be considered properly; however, it is important to publicly express dissatisfaction with the authorities' actions.
