Dagestani preacher Abu Zeid killed in Iraq

Mukhammad Akhmedov (Abu Zeid), a preacher from Daghestan, was killed in Northern Iraq, his relatives told the "Caucasian Knot". Akhmedov was a member of the "Islamic State", a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, and died from a drone attack, said Joanna Paraschuk, an analyst of the British think tank IHS Jane's.

According to preacher's relatives, he was killed in Mosul. Prior to his departure from Dagestan, Akhmedov "was an authority among Dagestani Salafi youth."

Ms Paraschuk has added that IS' media resources "have confirmed the death of Abu Zeid."

Meanwhile, the fate of another, more well-known Dagestani preacher Nadir Abu Khalid (Nadir Medetov) is still unknown.

"He has not been seen for a long time in Syria and Iraq. His latest video was posted by the IS in September 2015. Later it was reported that he was killed after being arrested on suspicion of espionage," said a source, who visited the area controlled by the IS. He added that "the espionage charges could have to do with the preacher's criticism of the IS' activities.

According to Joanna Paraschuk, the information about Nadir Abu Khalid's arrest or killing "may be true."

Let us remind you that Nadir Abu Khalid was preaching in the mosque located in Hungarian Warriors Street in Makhachkala, and then – in a mosque in Derbent. His detention on October 8, 2014, caused a great resonance.
