ER's nominee lost to Marshankulov at elections in Cherkessk

The oppositionist Eduard Marshankulov won more votes in Cherkessk than Rasul Botashev, a candidate from the ruling "Edinaya Rossiya" (ER) (United Russia) Party. Despite the failure in Cherkessk, the candidate from the ruling party managed to win at the single-mandate constituency No. 16.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 18, the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) held elections to the Russia's State Duma. According to preliminary data, the ER is in the lead.

According to the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Marshankulov gathered 29,017 votes; Botashev – 27,677 votes. Nevertheless, the candidate from the ruling party managed to win the elections by the votes won in other dwelling settlements of the republic, says the state automated system "Vybory" (Elections).

After the announcement of the outcomes, Marshankulov said that he "managed to defend each of his votes," the "Kommersant" writes, adding that Marshankulov's election office had a full control of the situation during voting and "managed to stop large-scale frauds in Cherkessk."

Activists of the "Communists of Russia" Party complained on the voting day that precinct election commissions pressed candidates and observers from the party.
