Voters in Cherkessk criticize Totorkulov's non-admission to elections

The voters of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" on the voting day, treated the non-admission of the self-nominee Aliya Totorkulov to the elections as their major disappointment of the 2016 election campaign.

On September 18, the KChR held elections to the Russian State Duma. According to preliminary data, the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party is in the lead in the republic; and its candidate Rasul Botashev is the winner in the single-mandate constituency. Also on September 18, local MPs unanimously re-elected Rashid Temrezov as the head of the republic.

A resident of the city of Teberda named Nazim said that he had "decided not to go to the polls at all, because of Totorkulov's non-admission."

Elena, a resident of the city of Cherkessk, noted that this election campaign in the republic "was notable for candidates' passiveness."

In the opinion of Andrei Gudinov, a journalist and an activist of the public movement "Voters of Russia", the Totorkulov's participation would have allowed to evaluate the rating of "those candidates who offer something new."

Earlier, local candidates for the State Duma had criticized the pre-election situation in the KChR, namely, Eduard Marshankulov accused his rivals of disrupting the open debates and criticized the non-admission of Totorkulov to the elections.
