HRC files complaint to GPO about detention of protesters in Beslan

The detention of activists of the "Voice of Beslan" and their punishment for the protest action is not justified from the legal and moral points of view. This opinion was voiced by the Human Rights Council under the Russian President (HRC). In their appeal to General Prosecutor Yuri Chaika, members of the HRC request the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) to intervene in the situation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the women who were taken hostage and lost their children in the Beslan terror act, were accused of disorderly conduct and sentenced to public works. Fatima Tsirikhova who was just standing next to the protesters was also punished.

Today, the HRC has sent an appeal to General Prosecutor Yuri Chaika with a request to "take action" because of the fact that the women involved in the action were detained with the use of brute force and punished.

"Such actions in relation to the women, who survived the terrible tragedy, cannot be justified from moral and legal points of view, especially since their actions produced no public danger," emphasizes the appeal.
