Kuban farmers appeal to Vladimir Putin for help

Nina Karpenko, Alexander Matviyenko, and Igor Maslov, farmers from the Krasnodar Territory, have recorded a video appeal to the Russian President. They have asked Vladimir Putin to help the arrested participants of the "tractor march" and to solve the problems with raiders' seizures and corruption in Kuban.

Today, the video appeal has been published on the website of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta".

On August 21, farmers of the Krasnodar Territory started a tractor run to Moscow. They attempted to draw the authorities' attention to the raiders' seizure of land plots in the region. On August 23, the farmers were detained in the Rostov Region, when they gathered in a cafe for talks with representatives of the presidential permanent mission in the Southern Federal District (SFD).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Alexei Volchenko, the leader of the movement "Polite Farmers", was sentenced to ten days of administrative arrest; other 11 farmers have been arrested for 5-10 days.

"The tractor march of the Kuban farmers to Moscow was dispersed by the police, and the participants of the march were arrested. At present, farmers Nina Karpenko, Igor Maslov, and Alexander Matviyenko appeal to President Putin. They ask him to pay attention to corruption in the Krasnodar Territory and to help the detained tractor drivers, who were trying to protect their land from agricultural holdings," notes the annotation to the video posted on the website of the "Novaya Gazeta".

In their video appeal, the farmers claim that "Kuban faces chaos and redistribution of land, and courts pronounce unlawful decisions." Nina Karpenko, Igor Maslov, and Alexander Matviyenko have emphasized that they had come to Moscow to tell the President of Russia about the problems of Kuban farmers.

According to the farmers, the Krasnodar Territory needs a special commission to deal with the current situation in the region.
