Valery Permyakov to be extradited to Russia, Armenian experts report

In accordance with the agreements between Armenia and Russia, soldier Valery Permyakov, sentenced to imprisonment for the murder of a family in Gyumri, will serve his sentence in the territory of Russia. However, the final decision will be made after the verdict enters into force. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by experts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 23, the court sentenced Valery Permyakov to life imprisonment for the murder of seven members of the Avetisyan family.

The prison where Valery Permyakov will serve his sentence shall be selected in accordance with the treaties and agreements, including those on deployment of a military base in Gyumri and mutual legal assistance. This was emphasized by Lusine Martirosyan, the chief of the Department for Information and Public Relations.

"In order to extradite Valery Permyakov from Armenia to Russia, he should be firstly given out to Armenia. Today, like earlier, the sentenced soldier is still under the jurisdiction of Russia," noted Lusine Saakyan, an advocate of the Avetisyan family's successors.

According to the advocate, despite the fact that the court's verdict was to indicate the place for serving of Valery Permyakov's sentence, nothing was mentioned by the court about that.

"If no different situation is created: in particular, if no new agreement is signed between Armenia and Russia, then Valery Permyakov will serve his sentence in the Russian Federation," noted Lusine Saakyan.
