Residents of Martakert criticize quality of repair works

Residents of the district centre of the Martakert District of Nagorno-Karabakh have expressed their dissatisfaction with the repair of the houses damaged during the combat actions. According to agents of the construction departments, the works are still underway. They have accused some complainants of dishonesty.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by tenants of the houses in Mesrop Mashtots Street that the authorities had failed to fulfil their promises of complete repairs of the houses.

The house of Anush Akopyan was damaged as a result of a shell explosion. The authorities have installed a new roof, a door and a window; however, the repair works remained unfinished.

Laura Shirinyan has complained that her house still remains not repaired, although builders visited her several times and made appropriate calculations.

The complete repair works may take 2-3 years, reports Ovik Gyurdjyan, the chief architect of Martakert. According to him, the works at the Anush Akopyan's house are completed, while the rest houses are being repaired in turn.

In Martakert, a school and more than twenty houses were damaged as a result of shelling, and in the village of Matagis, a school and several residential buildings were also damaged, reports Karen Shakhramanyan, Minister of Urban Development of Nagorno-Karabakh.
