Maxim Shevchenko decides not to challenge CEC's decision

The Law "On elections" prevents participants of the election process from equal exercising of their rights. This opinion was voiced by journalist Maxim Shevchenko. According to him, he would not challenge the decision of the working group of the Central Election Commission (CEC), which recognized as lawful his removal from elections in Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 24, the Russian Central Election Commission confirmed the refusal to register journalist Maxim Shevchenko, a member of the Presidential Human Rights Council (HRC), as a candidate for deputy of the State Duma.

According to Maxim Shevchenko, even in case if some mistakes were made, they "were immaterial concerning the issue of removal of the candidate from the election campaign."

"Specially trained people should work at the CEC who should go around the houses and collect signatures. Now it turns out that someone has more money, and someone, like me, is short of them. And I have not been able to hire people to gather signatures," Maxim Shevchenko has stated.

Maxim Shevchenko has noted that at present, he "prefers to help other democratic forces in the region, which are to run for the National Assembly and the State Duma of the Russian Federation."

Besides, Maxim Shevchenko has also said that in Dagestan, the fight against extremism "is intended to divert the attention of the federal government from corruption crimes in the republic."
