Advocate reproaches investigators of violating Natiq Jafarli's right to defence

The court hearing to elect the pre-trial restriction against Natiq Jafarli, the secretary of the movement "Republican Alternative", accused of violating law, took place at night, and the opposition was not allowed to meet his advocate before the court hearing. This was reported by Djavad Djavadov, an advocate of Natiq Jafarli.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the executive secretary and co-founder of the movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl) was detained on August 12. Then, he was taken into custody for four months.

According to Djavad Djavadov, Natiq Jafarli is accused of illegal entrepreneurship and abuse of power. However, the advocate is still not aware about the charge filed against his client. Djavad Djavadov claims he sees no grounds to take the oppositionist into custody.

Lawyer Erkin Gadirli, a member of the Bard of the movement "ReAl", the pre-trial restriction measure against Natiq Jafarli was pronounced in violation of the law.

"Natiq was detained at night, and then he was illegally interrogated at the Prosecutor's Office. At night, they illegally searched his apartment and seized a PC and jewelleries belonging to his wife," noted Erkin Gadirli.

According to him, the criminal proceedings against Natiq Jafarli have become one more attempt to weaken the movement "ReAl".

At present, according to Erkin Gadirli, the movement "ReAl" continues to fight against the amendments to the Azerbaijani Constitution initiated by President Ilham Aliev. The opposition believes that the constitutional amendments may result in strengthening the authoritarianism in the country.
