Resident of Grozny sentenced for possession of ammunition and financing terrorism

Suleiman Aidamirov, a resident of Chechnya, accused of illegal possession of ammunition and explosive devices and of financing terrorism, was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment by the North-Caucasian District Military Court (NCDMC).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Suleiman Aidamirov was detained in December 2015. According to investigators, in 2008, he arranged a hiding in Grozny, where he stored ammunition and explosive devices.

"Besides, in last October, Suleiman Aidamirov gave 5000 roubles to his friend Zelimkhan Mimbulatov, who intended to leave for Syria to join the terrorist organization 'Islamic State' (IS), banned in Russia. Zelimkhan Mimbulatov was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment," said a staff member of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

Relatives of Suleiman Aidamirov treat the sentence as too severe.

"He takes care of his minor children. He has sincerely repented of everything he did and has admitted his guilt," noted the source.
