Marriage of Yagublu to Khazi registered in Azerbaijani colony

The wedding ceremony of the journalist Seimur Khazi and Nigyar Yagublu, an activist of the "Musavat" Party, was held today in Azerbaijani Colony No. 17.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 1, the wedding ceremony of the jailed journalist Seimur Khazi and Nigyar Yagublu, an activist of the "Musavat" Party, did not take place after they were told that the travel wedding services had been banned in Azerbaijan; however, official sources denied the existence of the ban.

In January 2015 Seimur Khazi, a columnist of the "Azadlyg" (Freedom) newspaper and a member of the oppositional National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of a fight with some earlier unknown man. Khazi completely denied his guilt. Nigyar Yagublu is a daughter of Tofig Yagublu, a deputy chairman of the oppositional "Musavat" Party, who was sentenced in March 2014 to five years on charges of organizing mass riots in the city of Ismayilli.

According to Nigyar Yagublu, the wedding ceremony at Azerbaijani Colony No. 17 "lasted for a few minutes."

"Our marriage was registered by Nailya Akhmedzade, the head of the Civil Status Office of the Khazar District of Baku. I took Seimur's surname. The ceremony lasted for a few minutes; it was held with the participation of witnesses. It is a simple procedure, and I don't understand why our marriage was not registered yesterday," Nigyar Yagublu told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding that "the wedding party will take place after the release of Seimur Khazi."
