Supporter of "Constituent Parliament" arrested in Armenia

Khachatur Gichyan, a supporter of the "Constituent Parliament", has been arrested for two months on charges of helping an armed grouping, which captured the building of the Armenian police patrol-and-guard regiment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the morning on July 17 supporters of the "Constituent Parliament" captured the building of the police regiment of the patrol-and-guard service in Yerevan, demanding the release all the country's political prisoners. During the capture, a policeman was killed; and six other people were wounded.

Gichyan is accused of capturing buildings and structures, and illegal possession and transportation of weapons, Tigran Sargsyan, an advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding that according to the indictment, Gichyan had provided the armed grouping with his own truck.

However, according to the advocate, Gichyan refuses to plead guilty.

According to Sargsyan, the truck, with which the armed grouping rammed the iron gate when capturing the above building of the police regiment, was registered to someone else's name; and Gichyan only drove it and parked in the yard of his house.

The advocate believes that investigators' charges "have very weak grounds."
