Sochi: activists speak against installation of CCTV cameras throughout city
In Sochi, at gatherings, tenants of multi-apartment houses were proposed by the management companies to install CCTV cameras on facades of their houses with a view to combat terrorism. According to agents of the management companies, the appropriate requirement was voiced by officials of the Sochi city administration. Members of the house committees criticized the offer to install CCTV cameras at the expense of the tenants of the houses.
The gatherings of the tenants, at which it was announced on the need to connect the houses to the installed CCTV system KAIAS "Safe Sochi", took place on July 1-15, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
Members of the house committees spoke against the offer. In particular, Svetlana Mikheeva, the chair of the house in 13 in Novosyolov Street, has expressed her surprise about the fact that the installation and maintenance of CCTV cameras is entrusted with a certain company, while, according to her, there are a lot of other organizations in Sochi that can install CCTV cameras at a lower price.
Svetlana Mikheeva called the offer to install the budget system at the tenants' own expense as an "unpleasantness."
"CCTV cameras provide no security and protection against terrorism. Just remember the murder of Boris Nemtsov in Moscow with an abundance of CCTV cameras... Where is the guarantee that CCTV cameras in our houses will work correctly if we pay the money?" asks Irina Kolupaeva, a resident of Sochi.
