Ayub Tuntuev accused of banditry

Ayub Tuntuev, a former employee of the Chechen president's security service, who is serving his sentence for a terror act, is charged in the new criminal case. This was reported by the human rights organization "Legal Initiative".

The charges are brought under Articles "involvement in a criminal grouping" and "attempt on the life of a law enforcer," the "Mediazona" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ayub Tuntuev was a defendant in the case of the terror act committed in 2005 in the regional centre of Znamenskoye in Chechnya, and he was sentenced to 24 years of imprisonment. In May, the "Legal Initiative" filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in defence of Ayub Tuntuev, who complained about torture. According to human rights defenders, after being tortured at the penal colony IK-6 of the Vladimir Region, Ayub Tuntuev signed a confession that he took part in the combat actions in the territory of Chechnya and Dagestan in 2000-2005.

The terror act in the village of Znamenskoye was committed on July 19, 2005. 14 people were killed as a result of a car bombing. Aslanbek Vitrigov, Ali Agamerzaev, and Ayub Tuntuev, were detained, and investigators treated them as persons who committed the terror act. Later, Supyan Arsanukaev, who was mentioned in the case as an organizer of the terror act, was killed.
