In Germany, number of asylum seekers from Chechnya rises to 4410 people during six months

In the first half of 2016, Germany registered almost doubled increase in the number of migrants from Russia in comparison with the same period of 2015. Of them, about 83.5% were natives of Chechnya.

On May 29, the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot" got a message reporting the increase in the number of applications for political asylum in Germany, submitted by natives of Chechnya. "Die Welt" reports with reference to the German Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) that in the period of January 1-May 23, 2016, 2728 applications for asylum was submitted from Russia.

In the period of January-June 2016, the number of applications for asylum in Germany submitted by Russian citizens amounted to 5277, whereas in the first half of 2015, the number of such applications was 2847, the "Kommersant" reports with reference to the German MIA.

Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya, the project director for Russia and Northern Caucasus of the International Crisis Group (ICG), associates the above fact with the very high levels of repression in Chechnya.

In 2013, Germany registered a record number of applications for refugee status submitted by Chechen natives: then, more than 15,500 Russian citizens, 90% of whom were natives of Chechnya, sought refuge in the country.
