Igor Trunov complains about being deprived of his advocate status

The decision of the Qualification Commission of the Advocates' Chamber of the Moscow Region on deprivation of the status of advocate is unfounded. This was claimed by Igor Trunov, well-known for protection of the interests of the victims in the cases of the terror acts committed at the "Domodedovo" Airport, the Dubrovka Theatre Centre, and in Moscow metro.

According to Igor Trunov, the Qualification Commission has treated his speech at a press conference on problems of the Russian advocates as "a disciplinary offense."

The decision is to be approved by the Board of the Advocates' Chamber of the Moscow Region, which is to consider the issue on August 24. This was reported by Igor Trunov.

According to him, "his colleague who argued that in his speech, he had belittled the authority of the legal profession" filed a complaint about his actions to the Qualification Commission.

However, Igor Trunov insists that the provisions of the Law "On Advocacy" and the Code of Professional Ethics regulate only the behaviour of advocates in exercising of their professional activities. Igor Trunov intends to challenge the decision of the Qualification Commission.
