Mass Iftar held in central Grozny
The action of Iftar (breaking the fast) in Grozny, advertised by the authorities as the most massive in Russia, will last until the morning prayer.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today the Mayoralty of Grozny has announced its readiness for a mass Iftar. Imams of mosques invited believers to take part in the religious event, said the locals.
Earlier, the Chechen authorities announced the Iftar on July 1 in Grozny, the largest in Russia, which, according to the Mayoralty, could be attended by 36,000 people. The mass action is another PR move of the authorities of the republic, said residents of Chechnya, who stated the compulsion to attend the Iftar.
Today, the start of the action in Grozny was announced by Ramzan Kadyrov, the acting head of Chechnya. The Iftar will last until the morning prayer, says the website ChGTRK "Grozny".
The fasting of Ramadan (Ramazan) is named after the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. During that month, Angel Gabriel, according to the legend, gave the Prophet Muhammad the first divine revelation, which became the basis of the holy book of Muslims – the Koran.
