People not informed about threats from Rostov NPP under construction, ecologists report

The information about the real emissions of radionuclides from the fourth power unit of the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) under construction is being kept in secret from the public. This was stated by Andrei Ozharovsky, an expert of the Programme on nuclear and radiation safety of the International Social and Ecological Union. The influence of the NPP on the regions downstream Volga needs to be studied, notes Elena Vasilieva, the director of the Information Centre "Volgograd-Express".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in March 2016, set-up works were started in the course of the construction of the fourth unit of the Rostov NPP to be put in operation in 2017. The third unit of the NPP was put into operation on February 16, 2015.

Andrei Ozharovsky argued against the construction of the first Belarusian NPP. On July 18, 2012, he was arrested in Minsk when he tried to pass to the Russian Embassy in Belarus the activists' appeal against the signing of the general contract for the construction of the nuclear power plant. Thereafter, Andrei Ozharovsky was deported from Belarus and banned to enter the country during 10 years, the "Radio Liberty" reports.

Andrei Ozharovsky believes that the project is outdated. According to the activist, the lack of awareness is the reason for the fact that people do not stand against the construction of the NPP.
