Relatives state torture of resident of Ingushetia

Relatives of Lecha Gadamauri, a resident of the Sunzha District, have turned for help to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial"; they claim that he was tortured and beaten up by power agents.

As stated by Elizaveta Gadamauri, the Lecha’s mother, her son was kidnapped on June 8 in the town of Sunzha at the intersection of Dzerzhinsky and Mozdok Streets. Two days later, they found out that Gadamauri was detained by power agents and charged with illegal possession of weapons and ammunition and participation in an illegal armed formation (IAF), Elizaveta Gadamauri told rights defenders.

According to the HRC "Memorial", on June 11, the Magas District Court ruled to place Lecha Gadamauri in custody for two months.

"Relatives met him and saw his grave condition. He behaved not quite adequately. He walked and spoke with difficulty; bruises, haematomas and abrasions were seen in his face, and extravasations on the neck. His right arm and leg were shackled by cramp. His eyes were red, and traces of torture with electric current were seen on his hands. Several times he vomited with blood," says the press release of the HRC "Memorial” received today by the "Caucasian Knot".

The torture of Lecha Gadamauri was also reported to his family by advocate Natalia Beloguzova, rights defenders have reported. "The advocate Beloguzova was hired by relatives and could meet Lecha. They learned from her words that he had been tortured, as a result of which his face and legs were swollen; he could hardly speak," says the press release of rights defenders, who added that the advocate of Gadamauri appealed to law enforcers asking to conduct a medical examination of Lecha, but received a refusal.
