WB allocates loan to Azerbaijan for support of IDPs

The World Bank (WB) Board of Directors has approved the allocation to Azerbaijan of an additional loan in the amount of 66.7 million US dollars for improvement of the living conditions and increase in income of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2011, Azerbaijan and the World Bank signed a loan agreement for the amount of 50 million US dollars under the programme for the improvement of the living conditions of IDPs from the conflict zone in Nagorno-Karabakh. It was planned that the total cost of the programme would amount to 78.5 million US dollars, 28.5 million of which to be funded by the government of Azerbaijan. After that, the World Bank has repeatedly allocated to Azerbaijan loans for various purposes related to the improvement of the living conditions of IDPs.

Azerbaijan treats persons who lived in Nagorno-Karabakh as IDPs. 7% of the population of Azerbaijan remain displaced as a result of the Karabakh conflict, and up to 50% of immigrants still live in difficult conditions, the "Interfax" reports on June 18.
