Communists’ protests against NATO fail to impress residents of Volgograd

Actions of supporters of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) against expansion of the NATO were held today in the cities of Volgograd and Volzhsky. Local residents were not interested in protesters’ foreign policy demands, but they supported claims to the socio-economic development of Russia. The use by Communists of the foreign policy agenda was criticized by Facebook users.

The pickets of the CPRF were dated to the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Germans’ attack on the Soviet Union and were organized in all districts of Volgograd and Volzhsky, Katerina Pechonova, the press secretary of the Stalingrad Regional Committee of the CPRF, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The protesters’ main slogans concerned the problems of memory about the WW II events and the expansion process of the NATO as a military bloc.

The fact that at the actions Communists have mainly criticized the Social Code adopted in the region, and the eastward expansion of the NATO was confirmed by Natalia Gorobchenko, the Secretary of the Stalingrad Regional Committee of the CPRF. In her opinion, actions of the CPRF are very popular.

Communist Alexander Sidikin, who was giving out newspapers to people, stressed, first of all, the pre-election character of the action.

Communists had declared the NATO topic as a distraction manoeuvre, said Volgograd journalist Dmitri Bessonov.

The declaration of foreign policy topics correspond to the moods in the society, said political analyst Alexander Saigin.
