Russia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia do not agree with UN resolution on refugees
During the 36th round of the Geneva Discussions on Transcaucasia, the delegations of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Russia have negatively assessed the UN resolution adopted on refugees and left the room.
The Geneva Discussions are held after the combat actions in South Ossetia in August 2008.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 7, the UN General Assembly for the eighth time voted in favour of the resolution proposed by Georgia on the right of refugees to return to Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The delegations of Russia, South Ossetia, and Abkhazia have called resolution biased. According to the delegates, the UN resolution essentially complicates the Geneva Discussions, which are the only international platform for the settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz and Georgian-Ossetian conflicts.
Delegates from South Ossetia accused Tbilisi of deliberate damage of border signs and claimed that Georgian law enforcers entered the territory of South Ossetia. And the Russian delegation has called on Georgia to launch the process of demarcation of the borders with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, reports the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Russian Federation.
In their turn, delegates of Georgia have raised the issue of discrimination against ethnic Georgians in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, stating that they are limited in their right to study in their mother tongue, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports.
The next meeting in Geneva is scheduled for October 4-5, the "Sputnik-Abkhazia" reports.
