Police confiscate goods at Khasavyurt marketplace, traders report

The police carried out a raid at the marketplace "Empire" in Khasavyurt, specializing in selling clothes. According to merchants, the police seized goods, and as a result, clashes occurred. Merchants treat the police actions as unlawful.

"We are told about copyright infringement. They tell us that we are allegedly engaged in selling fakes of famous brands and that it is prohibited by law. Then, 90 percent of all items sold in Russia are to be seized. However, nowhere happens anything of that kind," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Khadizhat Alieva, a market employee.

According to merchants, the policemen behaved aggressively, and clashes occurred at the marketplace.

The merchants state this is not the first time when their goods are being seized. Merchants announced their intention to hold a rally with the demand to stop police raids.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 31, in Khasavyurt, a rally was hold by 50 merchants of local marketplaces. They expressed their dissatisfaction with the raids of policemen who seized food and textile products imported from Turkey, as well as clothes made in Turkey which did not come under the ban. Later, the merchants stopped their protests. According to them, their goods have been already destroyed, and officials are not going to pay compensation for the goods seized.
