Dagomys residents rally to demand to stop development of river banks

About 50 residents of the settlement of Dagomys held a rally and decided to appeal to the governor of the territory to take measures against constant flooding of the settlement that belongs to Sochi. Appeals to local authorities were fruitless, they said.

Since late May, the South of Russia suffers from heavy rains, which result in accident in the utility and housing systems.

On June 12, at their rally, residents stated that they should not admit the relapse of the tragedy in Krymsk in 2012, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"There is no unified centre to study the problems of floods and how to deal with them. We have to save ourselves in case of a flood," said Vasily Parfilo.

Evgeny Pervushin has noted that back last year local residents sent letters to various officials, starting from the head of the Lazarevskoe District and up to the President of the Russian Federation asking to take measures to prevent floods. However, they received no answers.

On December 30, 2015, they received an answer to a collective appeal from the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Krasnodar Territory, stating that the Sochi Department of Civil Defence was formulating a proposal to be included into the state programme for the territory assuming certain works on the Eastern and Western Dagomys Rivers.

At the sitting on April 8, Anatoly Pakhomov, Sochi Mayor, said that there is no money for these works.
